What I think
Our main characters are investigating a mountain man living off the land that is accused of stealing chickens from a local farmer. They locate him but leave him be since he really isn't hurting anyone. As the story progresses a lot of strange happenings occur. Apparently, fracking at the Earths poles is causing a huge disturbance to the natural order of things and the dead begin to rise. This is only one story involved in this multifaceted dark comedy that explores climate change and interweaves science fiction and horror into a weird concept of a movie.

This movie is a bit slow, and I mean painfully slow. The comedy is very dark and subtle yet not really funny. There were some areas that made it feel like the Coen Brothers had a hand in the direction of the film but in the end I was not very impressed with the final result.  With the unbelievable amount of star power and all the hype that came out for this film, it should have been better. It was an absolute let down and it pains me to say this but a lot of money was wasted when this movie was made.

Bill Murray is a legend and putting out strange dark comedy is his thing and much as I respect him for his movie choices he could have done better. Adam Driver is a good actor with plenty of talent in him but he should just stick to Star Wars movies. Finally, the production company, ANIMAL KINGDOM, owes the general public that watched this movie a refund.

If you like B movies like C.H.U.D. (1984), Squirm (1975), or Monster in the Closet (1987) then you might like this film. Other than that I am sorry for time wasted while viewing this flick.

I give this movie, in the name of October and Halloween, 💀 1/2 of 5 skulls

  1. All too accurate. It was a mess. Yes, I get the "in jokes" and 4th wall breaks, but they were not funny or really even interesting.
