Movie Review: Ad Astra

Ad Astra...a short movie review for people with short attention spans!!
Spoilers Possible!!!
Director
James Gray is the Director of Ad Astra and is also responsible for 2019's The Lost City of Z and 2013's The Immigrant which stars Joaquin Phoenix.

Starring
Brad Pitt (Ocean's 11), Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive), Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games), and Ruth Negga (World War Z)

Plot
Astronaut Roy McBride undertakes a mission across an unforgiving solar system to uncover the truth about his missing father and his doomed expedition that now, 30 years later, threatens the Universe.

What I Think
Major McBride is given the opportunity of a lifetime, to make contact with his father who was presumed dead after he lost contact with Earth 15 years into a space mission. This mission comes shortly after power surges ravage all electrical devices from deep in the Solar System.  It is at this moment that the US Space Command links a mission called THE LIMA PROJECT, which was tasked with exploring outer space for the search of intelligent life, to the problems at hand.
This movie is visually stimulating with all the bells and whistles represented.  Hyper realistic moonscapes, planetary representations, authentic gear and equipment, and space stations are to the tee although I am sure that Neil deGrasse Tyson would beg to differ.

The movie is not set in the present but in the not too distant future which is noticeable in the fact the they fly commercially to the moon and all the devices are very high tech, also we have colonized both the Moon and Mars.

Brad Pitt brings a stellar performance forward that is filled with plenty of drama and a range emotion that is both subdued and manic. Tommy Lee Jones also shows why he is a heavy hitter in the industry by conveying how loneliness in space affects the mind.

With extremely tense space walks, multiple deaths, and long stretches of inner dialog, Ad Astra captures the sense of adventure, excitement/tension of exploration, and a love of Science Fiction Space Drama will always find a place at the table.

I give this movie ⭐⭐⭐⭐ of 5 stars.
