What I think

If you’re a fan of the book series by Alvin Schwartz of the same name then you will be pleasantly surprised to know that some of your favorite stories have been adapted very well. This movie brought chills thrills and fright in all the right aspects. As we are introduced to our cast of characters we see certain props in the background the foreshadow the stories to come such as Harold the scarecrow. And as we move along we get to see the toe in the stew, which always gave me a sick feeling in my stomach. These particular stories hold a very scary part of my heart it took me back to my childhood.

The way that the director and art department visually realized some of the scariest portions of the book was fantastic, with Harold the scarecrow having an authentic look and the Jangly man being terrifying, they are sure to give you nightmares.

The main differences between the books and the movie is that the book really didn’t have a uniting theme. Every story was separate and different in its own right. The movie on the other hand takes place during Halloween in the 60s and has five kids breaking into a haunted house and summoning an entity named, Sara Bellows, that writes the stories and picks them off one by one. So in essence the movie was the collection of stories as well as a horror themed film that weaved its way from terrifying story to terrifying story but did it in a way where everything linked up and was cohesive and understandable. Great movie.

As always, if you love horror anthology is scary stories ghosts or just plain old creepy feelings then you will love scary stories to tell in the dark.

I get this movie ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ of 5 stars
