Movie Review: The Silence

The Silence … a short movie review for people with short attention spans.
Spoilers Possible!!!

Director:  John R. Leonetti

Starring:  Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, and Miranda Otto

Plot:  With the world under attack by deadly creatures who hunt by sound, a teen and her family seek refuge outside the city and encounter a mysterious cult.

What I think:  The opening shows an expedition into an uncharted caves system when the cave explorers breakthrough a wall into a new network. They hear animal noises and suddenly the passage they are in fills with creatures that devour them instantly. Once the creatures get their fill the rest of the colony escape into the world to wreak havoc on our civilization.

Our main character is a teenaged girl named Ally, Kiernan Shipka, who became deaf after a car accident. As a way of communicating with her family she has learned sign language and as a great family they learn ASL as well. In being knowledgeable with sign language they were automatically 10 steps ahead of everyone else in this new reality where a primitive creature kills everything that makes noise. This detail of the movie is a bit like the Quiet Place but with smaller creatures. They get a pass.

Stanley Tucci plays the father named Hugh. At the beginning he's very much a non fighting type of person, his best friend fights his battles for him. After the invasion of this new species, Hugh needs to stand up for his family. In doing so he has to make some very rash decisions which impacts the safety of his family. Stanley Tucci did a great job in his role.

In the last 30 minutes of the movie you meet a very creepy individual who has cut out his own tongue, this is going to be the human threat of the film. He turns out to be a cult leader and he stumbles upon the family as they are looking for supplies. He wants for them to join his cult and in doing so endangers their lives several times. This twist is well done and adds more tension to an already tense situation.

Will the family make it to a safe zone and escape the cult that has intervened in their trek to safety? Check out the movie to find out.

After going through the entire movie the action was very well played out, the creatures were kind of scary, and the plot was very well done. I would more than likely watch this movie again.

If you enjoy post apocalyptic horror genres, creature features, or strange occurences then look no further than THE SILENCE.

I give this movie ⭐⭐⭐½ of 5 stars.
