Movie Review: Mercy Black

Mercy Black ... a short movie review for people with short attention spans.
Spoilers Possible!!

Director:  Owen Egerton

Starring:  Daniella Pineda, Austin Amelio, and Janeane Garofalo.

Plot:  Fifteen years after stabbing a classmate to conjure an imaginary phantom known
as Mercy Black, Marina Hess is coming home.

What I think:  Most urban legends come from a semblance of truth. Be it the boogie man
or a haunted car, a wailing woman or an escaped lunatic, the horror is in the truth.

In the case of Merch Black the legend begins with a murder or an offering, much like
Slenderman or Michael Meyers. The story itself is okay with some jump scares and killings.
Some of the death scenes are implied instead of graphic visceral gore.  The monster is
seen only in glimpses and is only fully realized at the end of the movie. What saves the
movie is the M. Night Shayamalan twist at the end.

Our lead actress, Daniella Pineda, played Marina Hess as a reformed murderer the best she could by bring the realism of a person who has PTSD of sorts. Janeane Garofalo as the Psychiatrist was a surprise since we are used to seeing her in comedies but she embraced the part and played it great. The creep factor was up and tense.

If this movie would've been aimed at adults with an "R" rating it could've been 10 times better. This movie was basically the movie Slender man as it was almost exact.

If you like soft core horror with weird creatures, this is your huckleberry.

I give this movie ⭐⭐ of 5 stars and that generous.
