Plot
A sled dog struggles for survival in the wilds of the Yukon.

What I Think
The plot is very deceiving. Duke the dog starts the movie as a very spoiled dog that belongs to a judge in California. He ends up getting stolen from the judge and sold to smugglers who ship him to the Yukon as a working dog for the miners trying to strike it rich in the gold mines. He was a very big dog.

While Duke is being transported, he encounters the darker side of humanity as he runs into the smugglers that beat and starve him as a way of training him. He escapes and eventually finds a person who treats him okay but as a sled dog.
Even though he is a massive dog he is no sled dog and must learn to do this job from the bottom. His position is at the back of the pack with an egomaniacal lead dog that has no love for Duke. He must become a strong member of the pack or suffer the wrath of the lead dog.

This story is one of a few lines that Duke encounters and it is very much a story of becoming a leader in dire circumstances by unleashing your inner animal.

This movie also stars Harrison Ford who plays an old depressed prospector with a dark past who meets Duke along the way. It is a very touching story that you will need to watch the movie to appreciate.

Any movie with a dog brings me back to notable movies about dogs and they all have a common theme. Whether it's Old Yeller, Marley & Me, or Turner and Hooch the story is always a sad one. This one has a twist at the end that brings a tear to the eye and raises a beacon of hope that will shine for a generation.

This was a very thoughtful representation of the book that shares its name. The action, adventure, and story were interesting and exciting at the same time and you were given closure from beginning to end.

If you like animal movies, animation, and old timey movies then this one may be a good addition to the collection.

I give this movie ⭐⭐⭐⭐ of 5 stars.
