Movie Review: Haunt

Haunt...a short movie review for people with short attention spans!
Spoilers Possible!!!
Director
Scott Beck and Brian Woods are directing partners having directed a few other movies together that include The Bride Wore Blood, Spread, and Nightlight.

Starring
Katie Stevens (Polaroid), Will Brittan (Kong: Skull Island), Lauryn Alisa McClain (Daddy's Little Girls), Andrew Caldwell (Ring Ring), Shazi Raja (Brad's Status), and Schuyler Helford (Indoorsy web series)

Plot
On Halloween, a group of friends encounter an "Extreme" haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some nightmares are real.

What I Think
We are introduced to a few of the main characters as a jack-o-lantern slams into the front door of a sorority house on Halloween night. We observe that one of the girls is in an abusive relationship and in denial about the abuse. Her friends decide to take her out to take her mind off of the problem. They run into a few other friends and the night gets crazier but the bars close and there is nothing else to do...until, one of the group finds a flyer for an EXTREME Haunted House. They agree to go check it out. What follows is a tension filled hour of torture, fear, and death.
The premise in the beginning is just like any other haunted house horror movie but what changes the dynamic of this one is how they are pushed through the building and the rules associated with the house. When they first enter everything is kind of tame but the deeper they get the more real everything becomes. They continually break the horror movie rules such as splitting up several times. It also includes the scariest part for the millennial population when all of the cellphones are taken from the participants, everyone is like, GTFO...WTF!

I thought that this movie had great hallmarks in the fact that it was intense, the characters were fairly fleshed out, and you know who the strong characters are. This might be because it was produced by Eli Roth and written by the people that brought us The Quiet Place. I have mentioned this before in previous reviews but this one definitely has echos of the Saw Series as well as Hostel (which is directed by Eli Roth).

Haunt hits quite a few of my personal horror movie needs and for that I can definitely say without a doubt that this is a must see movie.

I give this movie ⭐⭐⭐⭐ of 5 stars.
