Brightburn:  A short movie review for people with short attention spans.
Spoilers Possible!!!

Director

This movie was directed by David Yarovesky who also has directed many short movies, video games, and another full length movie called "The Hive".

Starring

Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games), David Denman (Logan Lucky), and Jackson A. Dunn (Avengers: Endgame)

Plot

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister?

What I think

The movie opening in itself is a bit weird you have a husband and wife about to have sex because they want to have a kid and shortly after they’re about to start a meteor hits just behind their house.  The screen goes black and you get updates on a child that was born and it is kind of like you’re seeing him grow up.  Fast forward 10 years and you see the boy is 12 now and he has little tics and mannerisms that are making him look weird.

A little later in the movie the boy is drawn to the barn where he starts hearing voices and seeing lights almost like he’s being called to that area.  His feelings become stronger it’s almost like he’s sleepwalking and finding his way to the barn even when he’s unconscious. He then becomes violent and talks back and becomes very vengeful.

His father starts to see what he truly is and his mother turns a blind eye because she feels he can do no wrong, but that’s where she made a mistake.

A
s I watch this movie a couple of other movies come to mind, Superman and The Blob.  On the one hand you have a child sent from space that was an alien who comes to earth becomes a member of society and does good.  But on the other hand you have the gelatinous blob who comes to earth and completely tears the fabric of society apart by consuming and destroying everything in its path.  When it comes down to it, the story could’ve gone either way but in this case you had a third movie interjected into this which completely turned the plot on its head because now you have a Damien like character from The Omen who is like the blob with Superman capabilities.

All in all this movie is pretty good. It has some decent jump scares, unbelievable plot lines, and a good cast that you cared about for the most part.

If you like Science Fiction, Horror, Alien like, and apocalyptic style movies then try Brightburn on for size.

I give this movie ⭐⭐⭐ of 5 stars.
