Movie Review: The Up Side

The Up Side … A short movie review for people with short attention spans!
Spoilers Possible!!!

Director: Neil Burger
Starring:  Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston, Nicole Kidman
The Plot: A comedic look at the relationship between a wealthy man with quadriplegia
and an unemployed man with a criminal record who's hired to help him.
What I Think: Right off the bat, this is not your typical Kevin Hart movie. This is a
seriously dramatic movie with a spattering of comedy interspersed to break up the drama.
I am not saying that this movie is bad in any way, shape, or form.  As a matter of fact
this movie is very good. It has an enormous amount of heart and drama that is delivered in a way as to not make you uncomfortable although there are uncomfortable situations.

The laughs that come are from both Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston bouncing words off each other, using euphemisms and double entandres, really are hilarious.

This is based on a true story about an Dell Scott, and ex-convict, that wins the opportunity of a lifetime to take care of Philip Lacasse, a quadriplegic writer, who pays him very well. There are deeply serious themes such as suicide, depression, loneliness, and death. With all of the weighted themes there are also uplifting themes such as hope, love, family, trust, and optimism. These items together were able to form a fantastic narrative about special needs, the price of care, the cost of friendship, and the ability to overcome adversity no matter the size of the hurdles. All in all, The Upside was a touching flick and funny as well. If you enjoy movies about conquering your destiny then here is one for you. I give this movie a ⭐⭐⭐¾ of 5 stars.
