Movie Review: Dragged Across Concrete (2018)

Dragged Across Concrete … a short movie review for people with short attention spans.
Spoilers Probable!!!

Directed by: S. Craig Zahler

Starring: Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, Don Johnson, Tory Kittles, Michael Jai White, and Jennifer Carpenter

Plot: Once two overzealous cops get suspended from the force, they must delve into the criminal underworld to get their proper compensation.

What I Think: As the movie starts the focus is on Henry, Tory Kittles, an African American man who just got released from prison only to come home to a mom who turns tricks and his handicapped brother. His story is that he trying to make a better life for his family after serving time.
Then you have our two Detectives, Tony and Brett, that are suspended for using excessive force during a bust. Tony, Vince Vaughn, is the younger detective that is a bit of a loose cannon in his own right. Brett, Mel Gibson, is the older detective with wisdom but disgruntled. Their story spirals out of control as they blur the lines between being good cops trying to make ends meet and being criminals.

Strap in because I have something to get off of my chest. To say this movie is slow
would be a grievous understatement. I have seen snails move faster. Nothing really picks up until the one hour and fifteen minute mark but it isn't super action packed like you would expect from a Mel Gibson movie nor is it funny like a Vince Vaughn movie. The dialog is only overshadowed by the long stretches of silence.  There is no real soundtrack to speak of. The final hour and fifteen minutes of the movie is a lot more dialog and tense scenes.

The verdict for me is a movie where you expected a huge amount of action but got a stage play instead. Keep in mind that my film opinions are my own but if you want a dialog heavy movie that is entertaining Quentin Tarantino makes those all the time.

I give this movie ⭐⭐½ of 5 stars.
